While typing, I use up and down arrows to move between suggestions. This will 
give suggestions, depending on what you typed, for contact's names, subject 
lines etcetera. Once you have selected one, you can navigate past it with the 
left arrow, and then use the up and down arrows again to choose more specific 
options. For instance, if you began typing someone's name, used the down arrow 
to select their contact name, then pressed left arrow to navigate past the 
contact name token, and then used the down arrow you would get a menu with 
options to search for messages from that person, to that person or for all 
messages containing that person's contact details anywhere in the message.
