PacketPeeper is close:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/packetpeeper/

You can set it up to record all traffic going in/out of a network connection and then check all the metadata about each packet. The hole right now is the actual payload of the packet is displayed in an 'empty scroll area' which means you can't actually view bytes inside a packet. So if you just want to discover where all the traffic went you can get that far. It saves out in something called tcpdump format so if you have a tool for reading those files you can at least generate them with PacketPeeper.

Hi Alex,
I don't know of a Mac specific utility, but I used to use a console utility called "mmap" quite a few years ago when I was doing a lot of experimenting with Linux. I don't have the links handy but do a search for a package called home-brew. It is a packaging system for Mac OS that will allow you to install a huge list of unix utilities that Apple does not provide. Nmap may be among the list of packages available through Homebrew. You can find Homebrew through Github.

Hi all,
I'm trying to determine why my Windows VM drops its internet every so often, plus I'm just a geek. Does anyone know of an accessible packet sniffer app for the Mac, preferably one that does *not* require the terminal? I wouldn't mind one that can also provide details (connected devices, rates, all that) on my home network as well. Does such an animal exist? Thanks!
