Have you tried using Insync? I'm not currently using it but I have used the Mac 
client in the past when I needed to establish a drive on my Mac for Google 
docs. Works like dropbox etc. 
I don't remember if all the functionality was accessible but it certainly did 
download all the files and give me access to them in a folder. There is also 
still Google Drive but I never used the mac client for that and chose Insync at 
the time because it was so seamless. I haven't used it in a few months so 
things might have changed but looking at their web site it still seems pretty 
straightforward.
