So I read my email frequently. I have an iPod 5 running ios 7.1.1. In the mail app, when I open a message, it usually reads the message right away. If not, all I have to do is flick up with two fingers or press VO-B and it reads the message starting at the beginning automatically. Even if I'm at the end of the screen at the compose button, it'll read the message. This is good when you're reading threads, and you delete while inside the message to go to the next one.
