The trick is to go in to the preferences menu and select pitch and speed, you 
will find an individual slider for pitch and  another for speed.  You will 
notice that 50% is the normal setting while 100% is double and 0% is half.  
Next to each slider, there is a text box with which you can much more exactly 
control what the pitch and speed are.  You can choose to lock them, in which 
case they move together or to unlock them so they move seporately.
