Chris, For this tip and so many more, read the getting started guide in full, in the VO Help menu, VO-h. To move by word use option plus arrows. To select by word, add shift to those keystrokes. To delete the previous word, option-delete. All these work in most editing situations. Note that VO always speaks whatever it has passed over by default, not what is to the left of the cursor whatever direction you move in.
