I have not upgraded my itunes yet.  I don't plan to at this time.  So,  
this is just a thought and I do not know if this works.  What about  
using the item chooser menu to find the son/artist you are looking for  
in the songs table.  vo plus i  Then type the first letters of the  
artist or song then hit enter when you find the one you want.  Well,  
this is just a thought and I do not know if this item chooser works in  
itunes.
