Will, I'm not really sure what your asking here.  I'd certainly keep  
any drive no matter how it is powered.  I think the question really is  
what your plans are for the drive.  If your looking for a mobile  
solution, then certainly a drive that only requires usb power is going  
to provide the most flexibility for you; of course realizing this may  
affect battery life for the laptop if the drive is constantly in use  
while your mobile.
If your on ac power, then this won't be an issue and the advantage  
will be is less wires running around. So, I think it is more a matter  
again of application then anything else.
