A little follow up on the issue with my Brailliant. Apparently at some
point the device class that the Brailliant/Super Vario reports via
bluetooth changed from a computer to a generic device class (OS X
calls it unknown but the bluetooth specs call it any, as in generic)
also the service is reported on my Brailliant as a SPP and on the
older firmware was called COM-HARDWARE. I poked around inside the
Braille driver and discovered that is using the major device class as
part of the detection method for finding these displays so it looks
like if you have older firmware it will work but since there is no way
for the end user to change what firmware you get (I have the latest
apparently) you are stuck with USB for now until Apple updates the
driver. I sent this info to Apple and am hoping they confirm my
suspicions about the cause of the problem. According to what I have
been told the change to the device class was required so the displays
would pair with mobile phones.
