There are two closely related standard here. The first is DAISY/NISO or as it is also know NISO z3986. This is the latest digital talking book standard and support linked audio or audio only.
Then there is the ePub format which is what Sony is supporting. ePub is text only but is very similar to DAISY/NISO text only. So similar in fact that some DAISY playback software will also read ePub and there are tools to convert between the two.
