Simon, another thought occurred to me. When moving through the playlists, I do not hear any sound. I am wondering if you have the iTunes Genius turned on. I recall getting a noise at one point and I think that was it or it might have been that the Genius sidebar was showing. I'm sure a little further explanation and we'll figure this out.
