Hi Mike.
I am not aware of a solution on the mac. but the same problem can occur in 
windows sometimes. Especially if you convert the pdf file directly to text 
format from adobe reader.
Not to say hereby, that there is no solution on the mac, but just to say 
that I have seen the same thing on windows machines.
