Last time I tried something like this I ended up running the line out from the mac to the line in on the mac and selected line in as the audio input in the sound control panel. Of course for more control I had an external mixer to control the levels but even without that should work. That said, you can only have on input at a time without a mixer so you would have to switch from internal mic to line in and back again. There is probably a better way with audio hijack, soundflower or the like but I've not used them myself.
