I haven't done much with Automator recently, but what you want to do
is select the Utilities library, then there are actions like "Run
Shell Script", "Run Workflow", and "Run AppleScript". VO-right and
select "Run Shell Script" under the Actions table after you've
selected the Utilities library. Double-click (VO-Shift-Space) to add
the action to your workflow. You paste your shell script into the
area where you hear "edit text" in the "Run Shell Script" action. You
can set the shell you're scripting for (if it isn't bash) in a popup
button.

Similarly, when I run an AppleScript in an automator action I can
paste it into the "edit text" area.

Cheers,

Esther
