It also happens randomly on 11.10 (oneiric). Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Retraction is not working at all! Using the "eject" command on command line works and "eject -t" causes the drive to retract correctly.

However, on my Macbook, with the exact same software setup, the key does work. Update: As of Sept 14 2010, pressing the key will eject a CD, but will not retract the ejected tray. In both cases the eject image appears in the upper-right corner of the screen momentarily. Just that a CD will eject on the laptop (MacBook) machine and doesn't with the desktop.
