Here are the instructions: 1. Open Volume Control by right clicking on the volume icon and selecting "Open Volume Control". 2. Click on Preferences and enable Capture, enable Mic Boost, and then close Preferences. 3. In the Recording tab of Volume Control, raise the Capture level. 4. In the Playback tab of Volume Control, raise the Mic Boost level. 5. Test by running gnome-sound-recorder. Ensure that "Capture" is selected in the "Record from input" dropdown. I have tested it with "gnome-sound-recorder", Version 2.24.0.1. When recording with the tool, the time is moving way to fast. It will hang, when pressing stop.
