port info <portname> shows all the direct dependencies. port rdeps <portname> shows all the direct and indirect dependencies, in a dependency tree format.
This is a generic Macports answer. If the package or function that you are seeking is some component inside another port, rather than a port in its own right, then you will need to use a more in-depth search method. HTH.
