Thanks. This will probably a monster job, re-installing all ports. Holding 
breath...

Migrate won't necessarily reinstall all ports, only ones that are not built for your current OS and/or architecture, and ones that are outdated. Everything else is just deactivated and then activated. Though if it has been a really long time since you last upgraded, it's possible that most or all of your ports could be outdated.
