For what it's worth...
Clang 8 is now the default compiler (/usr/bin/cc) in all supported
versions of FreeBSD. This should provide some pressure on developers to
tighten up compliance with the modern C++ rules. It has also become
increasingly difficult to lag behind on unsupported versions of FreeBSD
because the ports infrastructure is broken for them.
