Of course you can start updating a few, but then you still need to run "sudo port upgrade outdated" at the end, as well as perhaps make sure that some ports are not accidentally pinned at an older version (I'm not sure about the easiest and most reliable way to do that check). >From the above text it's not clear whether other ports were upgraded or not.
