i was facing this problem earlier today - i simply downloaded the official
source tarball from the libtiff website, untarred in the work dir of the
package and installed away.. If you dont care about the ports registry you
could compile directly; it worked fine for me

(sorry if this has been discussed before but i only recently joined :-)
