I could swear that "man port" worked at home.
At work, I get
No manual entry for port

How do I remove Macports (permanently/completely or so I can try a
reinstall)?
You probably do not need to remove MacPorts. If you do want to,
instructions are in the FAQ:

FAQ#HowdoIremoveoruninstallMacPorts
Or how do I fix man?
"man php" works.
Maybe a problem with the path: what does
echo $MANPATH
report ?
$MANPATH is empty on my system, but "man port" still works fine.
In /opt/local do you have a symlink from man pointing to share/man? I
do.
I believe you either need this symlink, or you need /opt/local/share/
man in your $MANPATH.
