In general, I am not a fan of Homebrew. However, for Tiger users feeling left out by MacPorts' recent changes, maybe that fork will be helpful? I've already seen mention on MacRumors of forking MacPorts to retain Tiger support as well, so maybe there will be other potential options in the future?
