Not recently. There are still a number of portability bugs in CVS head (known core dumps and other security flaws) that need to be fixed before a 2.0 release is possible, not to mention the fact that M4 2.0 depends on the eventual release of libtool 2.0 first. I am still plodding through the list of changes made in 1.4.8 (and this month's coming release of 1.4.9) that I am working on porting to head, but the list is getting much smaller these days. But as for a beta-quality snapshot, I think that sticking 1.9b up on alpha.gnu.org as a progress metric would be reasonable, not to mention giving the translation team a head's up. > > The only one I know are very old (2002) at > http://www.lrde.epita.fr/~akim/download/ Yes, M4 1.4o is the most recent released tarball of the post-1.4.x development, and yes, it is quite out of date and rather insecure. Between 2002 and 2005, not much development occurred. But in 2006, I did quite a bit of work, and changed the numbering from 1.4o to 1.9a. > and the worse thing is that we (PLD) > are using these.
