Thanks Lee Yes I'd come across LibRom - although I don't know whether it is actually compatible with the 102 or not and I'd be interested to hear of other's experiences.
I think one of the main differences between the 100 and the 102 is that's it's a much slimmer and one of the ways they did this was using surface mount and removing most of the sockets... so in my case the ROM is definitely soldered to the board. I can get an EPROM programmed, and I like the idea of it still being a UK style ROM.
