Multipart Documents

Hi,
I have a set of documents that together make up a book.
I would like to make the set of documents 
(100 in all) into a template that can be used for 
writing other books. Could anyone tell me if the 
locations of the documents are relative or fixed please? 
Or do I need to re-establish a connection 
between the master document and the child 
documents in the new document based on the proposed 
template?
