Andrew, I agree with Liviu.
I do not use mac, but I regularly switch between Windows and Linux. I have my LyX documents stored in Dropbox, which synchronizes them to all my computers. I then open and edit them on any computer, regardless of OS. Aside from needing to make sure that all LaTeX packages and external converters are properly configured, I have not encountered any problems with this. I believe that Mac behaves similarly, and you can expect very good compatibility.
