Hi,

Thank you, .. I have been jumping though hoops to control my text width within a cell ( inserting boxes into cells - argh)... your question cause me to try your example out and with a little paying around I've learnt something.

Anyway the way I see it (and I could be wrong), is that width you changed to 25% possibly would read better being labelled "text width" - not column width

In the lyx file I've returned to you I have set an overall table width to 100%, and treated the columns width as text width. even though my "column" widths dont add up to 100% the table width is still 100%

Notice that cell 3 is only 8% and looks like cells 2 & 4 have extra 'margins' to be visually appealing, if you put cell width back to 20% you will see those extra 'margins' in cells 2 & 4 magically disappear.

I'd say you can't set 25% for all the 'column' widths as think of it as 'text' width than add some margin so text is not crowded on border you will soon notice 4*( 25% text + margins + borders) > 100%

Cheers
Steve

Hello:

I have trouble width tables again.
I followed the advice at
http://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/Tables:
"ยง Arrgh. Why has my table disappeared off the edge of the page?"
but my table becomes wider than the text, and hangs out on the right side (into
the right margin).
I defined 4 colums, each 25% textwidth.
It seems that not the whole column width is defined by this, since the overall
width is more than 100%. What does column width define exactly then? And how
could I define table or column widths exactly including everything from left to
right edge?

I attach an example lyx and pdf file.

Thanks,
