Not sure I got your question. Is it, that you have a bib file (e.g. in Jabref) from which you get your references, and you want to know the number of all citations in your document? One way would be to switch to a bibstyle which numbers the references as they occur in the text. And afterward switch back to the stye you had used before. Wolfgang
