Thanks Scott, I ran out of time and had to get back to the task of actually writing my book, so as a kludge I just used the Description environment and put the numbers as the first word, and therefore the bold label. It looked the way I wanted in both LyX and PDF, and as a style decision it's probably as representative of the content as a list would have been, especially since this particular list is not expected to change (it's the last 6 of the 10 commandments). Everything I read on the page you referenced tells me that Resumed Enumeration will have the wrong numbers in LyX, which is contrary to what I need. Thanks for referencing that page so I could find out for sure there's no easy way to do it in LyX, making my workaround a whole lot more acceptable.
