It looks like this PDF reader locks the file it views.

You may try "by hand" 
 
- copy a PDF file to a temporary name or path
- open the PDF file with XChange
- copy another PDF file to this temporary name or path

Does the viewer auto-update (like evince or okular), update after clicking
(like adobe) or give an error (like in the above description)?

The last variant points to a problem with this viewer - report it as bug
and/or look for a different alternative.
