Of course, the instant I post it to the world at large, I solve the issue. I had done a search for android in the windows registry, and found a likely looking key which included a path including cmd.exe and the android-sdk (don't remember what it was now). I edited the path, with no apparent change to the issue. However, on reboot later, all problems seem to be solved! Hooray! Nick
