I believe the Debian LyX package is compiled without hunspell support for some
reason. Quote from the Debian changelog at version 2.0.0~beta4-1 on Mon, 07 Feb
2011 14:29:55 +0100:
"* Build explicitly --without-aspell and --without-hunspell. Drop
--without-pspell since it's no longer supported."
