I'm interpreting what you are saying as a hyphenation question.  LaTeX (and,
of course, LyX) has a weighting you can set to determine how often to allow
hyphenation. You can also turn it off completely. A third option is to
simply not allow hyphenation on certain words, or to tell it where the
proper place to hyphenate a word is.

\hyphenpenalty, and \exhyphenpenalty.
