If I find the time I'll have a look.

But surely I won't install Linux Mint for that.

Are you able to send the part of the output of "lsof -p <pid of your running 
lyx>"
referring the used shared libraries, especially the Qt (to get the version 
info).
Not that I want to blame Qt - I want to use the same version to build my debug 
environment for that.
