One method is to use what Pavel wrote in his post. There is also another method that will additionally automatically write the name "Fig.". This has the advantage that you can later change the name of all references in your document. This method is described in sec. 3.4.2 "Automatic Reference Naming" Of the EmbeddedObjects manual that you find in LyX's Help menu.
