I installed Qt and LyX via MacPorts. '$ port installed | grep qt' says I have Qt 4.6.3_6. Playing with the zoom provides some relief: the default zoom was 150%, and when I increased it all the way up to 300% at least the cursor didn't appear in front of the comma before deleting the 1. However, it still appears in the middle of the space between the comma and the second 'w', and 300% isn't really a zoom level I'd like to work with long term. Changing the default Roman font from 'Times' to 'Times New Roman' makes the text cursor behave properly. I had to increase the zoom to 200% though, since TNR is such a small font. thanks for the ideas. Derek
