Hi LyX listservers,

Hoping for a little help from you to get my dissertation formatting rolling.
I have searched the listserv archives and looked at Ch. 5 of the
customization help file, but...it hasn't helped.

What I have is a LaTeX .cls file configured to my university's dissertation
formatting guidelines that some sole graciously wrote. There are also
accompanying .clo and .bst files (not sure what these do). The class file is
named umthesis.cls and it is based on the report class.

I reconfigured LaTeX to recognized the umthesis document class. Then, per
recommendations from listserv respondents and based on Ch. 5, I created a
layout file titled umthesis.layout, with this inside:

#% Do not delete the line below; configure depends on this
#  \DeclareLaTeXClass[umthesis]{report umthesis}

This, apparently, is not the right thing to do, because when I go to
Document>settings>Local Layout and select the file, I get the error
message:

Unable to read local layout file.

Help: What do I need to be doing? The help instructions are not that clear
to me.

Thanks in advance!
