Is it no longer compatible with LyX?
After another look at -dbg debug I see:

Unable to set document class.
On closer inspection its clear the layout expects something called
"obsolete.inc" which no longer exists. Everything seems to work fine
after removing the offending line from the layout.
So the bug is invalid, it was a problem with the layout.

There is most probably an error loading the layout file, because as far
as I know, we don't load the class file explicitly.
As you write it's a custom layout file, I think that you made an error
in it. Can you send the layout file you made ?
