What is puzzling is that I used to do this without any trouble, but now it fails with any file I try.
Any ideas?

When I import a Latex file that contains an explicit bibliography
(\begin{thebibliography}.. \end{thebibliography}etc. from a .bbl file)
I get an error message:
Unrecognized parameter [Name
where Name is the first \bibitem in the bibliography.
