When I download from http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Manuals and attempt to view
the "The LyX User's Guide by the LyX TeamVersion 1.6.x" as a PDF file by
clicking on the PDF icon (View pdflatex) I get the following error message:
"tex\latex\subfig\subfig.sty is missing:"
When I say install from
ftp://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/systems/win32/miktex/tm/packages/
the following messages occur:
"An empty output file was generated"
LaTeX Error: File `subfig.sty' not found.

*** (cannot \read from terminal in nonstop modes) .
Am I doing something wrong? I've installed the Windows version Lyx ver
1.6.4 on an PC with Windows XP Pro sp 3 and I have Adobe Reader 9.2.0
PS The same problem occurs when I try to view the User Guide as
Postscript file
But I can view the PDF version of the Lyx tutorial OK.
Make sure you have a working Internet connection, then run MiKTeX's
"Browse Packages" program. Locate the subfig package; it will probably
be listed as not installed. (If it is installed, something is funky
with your setup). Install it, then reconfigure and restart LyX. Uwe's
suggestion should have done this is you have MiKTeX set to automatically
install missing packages, but you may have it set to ignore them.
