Uwe,
Installing the default MikTex via the Lyx installer fails. (A new bug?)
So I updated the old MikTex from 2.5 to 2.8 and deleted and reinstalled
Lyx 1.6 and referenced the tex.exe file in new MikTex .
Now I get a different messages when I click on the PDF icon to obtain a
PDF version of the User's Guide (the lyx version fetched via the Help tab):
Latex error:
"I can't write on file 'UserGuide.idx' "
\makeindex
Please type another output file name
----------------------------------------------------
How do I get past this obstacle? Where do I write this alternate output
file name?
Not knowing what to do next, I tried to produce a PDF version of the
User's Guidet a second time. IT NOW WORKS!! Go figure! Is this an
instance of self-repairing software?
Puzzled,
Jim
====================================================================
When I fetch the User's Guide via the Help tab and attempt to view
the "The LyX User's Guide by the LyX TeamVersion 1.6.x" as a PDF file by
clicking on the PDF icon (View pdflatex) I get the following error message:
"tex\latex\subfig\subfig.sty is missing:"
When I say install from
ftp://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/systems/win32/miktex/tm/packages/
the following messages occur:
"An empty output file was generated"
LaTeX Error: File `subfig.sty' not found.
\makeatother
*** (cannot \read from terminal in nonstop modes) .
Am I doing something wrong? I've installed the Windows version Lyx ver
1.6.4 on an PC with Windows XP Pro sp 3 and I have Adobe Reader 9.2.0
PS The same problem occurs when I try to view the User Guide as
Postscript file
But I can view the PDF version of the Lyx tutorial OK.
