Well, it's a design decision. The starred headings (\section* etc.) in LaTeX are defined to be excluded from TOC and headers. Look here how to get unnumbered headings that are in the TOC and the headers: http://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/Unsorted#toc22 Jürgen
