It sounds like the symbol for \textdegree is not in the font you use.
At least not in the desired size.
Interestingly, the \textdegree command or degree symbol did not turn up
in the error message you send.
Still not all the info we need.
Did you actually write k = 1,38° 10^{-23}VAs/K ???
Or did you use some symbold for times?
Which font is selected (via Document>Settings or a custom style/preamble
cmd).
Which encoding do you use (Document>Settings>Language>...),
Unicode or language-dependent or latin1 or ...
