Thanks, Helge. I did some searching and it seems like I can replace the command lyx %F in the launcher with gnome-terminal -e lyx %F and it will open a terminal (not minimized, though). This is basically what I was looking for. There is an extra window, but at least I don't need to start a whole new LyX process if/when I run into trouble. Cheers, Jay
