The inverse dvi search is not possible with the native Windows version of LyX, so those files are not shipped with the Windows installers. > Q2: How can the compilation avoided - but without paying the price of > some a flashing console window. You have to first install cygwin from http://cygwin.com and then the cygwin version of LyX (ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.6.3/lyx-1.6.3-cygwin.tar.gz). After you download lyx-1.6.3-cygwin.tar.gz, you have to un-tar it by typing "tar -zxvf lyx-1.6.3-cygwin.tar.gz" in cygwin terminal, and then follow the instructions in the README.txt file. -- Enrico
