Actually, I'm not sure. I know it's compatible with 10.4; 10.3.9 might
work, though I don't have any such machine around to test with. Try it
and report back!

Short answer is that there is no problem. Every version of LyX can
read file formats of any earlier version. The latest bug fix release
of the 1.x series can also read the 1.(x+1) file format. For example,
1.5.7 can read the 1.6.x file format. (1.5.4 was released before the
file format for 1.6 was finalized.)
