I suspect so, although it looks like a difficult slog. You might try
e-mailing Till Tantau, the author of Beamer, and ask him if he can
recommend a resource he used to learn how to do it (?). Anything
written in English, German or for that matter Klingon is probably going
to be easier to read than his source code (unless you're a TeXpert).

I don't know about odd v. even pages, but the beamer presentation package
includes styles that use various combinations of colored headers, footers
and sidebars.
