Using google, I found another possibility which should now be exactly what you want. Don't give article the option titlepage, put "\begin{titlepage}" in front of your title and right after all your titlepage-specific things in a new paragraph "\thispagestyle{empty} \end{titlepage}". Now everything should look like in your first example but without the pagenumber. This works, because Lyx inserts the \maketitle command right after your titlepage-things but now before the end of the titlepage. So now the pagenumber on the titlepage is suppressed by \thispagestyle{empty}.
