For some reason (that escapes me) Lyx does not like
ending the title with the (R) symbol AND adding a footnote to it (I'm
using the article class). I maintained the (R) and moved the footnote
(proposed citation) to another place in the document and things worked
again. The error does not occurr when suing the book class for example.
Perhaps this can tested by someone more proficient w/ LyX.
I failed to reproduce this, but I might not be doing things exactly the
same way you did. If you can reproduce the problem, can you post a bare
minimum example that we can play with?
